Playdates
Free. 0-4yo. Must have a Mandarin-speaking caregiver (no teacher provided).
Parents sing and tell stories for 30 minutes, then chit-chat while the kids play or eat. If you are interested in joining the playgroup regularly (i.e. ~50% attendance and forming friendships with moms and for your child), please look for these announcements on Google Groups.
Playdates happen when there's a host. To volunteer to host a playdate, please email mandarinsv@gmail.com. Host obligation are merely: pick a place and time, send out Google Groups notice, show up and have fun.
Currently we have a somewhat regular weekend playdate series happening, rotating amongst Palo Alto, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale locations.

Past Activities
Oct 6th 2012 -- Mooncake Lantern Festival Meetup
8 families with 10 kids got together at the park outside the Mountain View Library, and our volunteer Patricia told a story related to the lantern parade, and led a sing-along. A grandpa told the story of how lantern festival was 60 years ago in rural China where there wasn't electricity and how the festival evolved over the decade. Pretty paper lanterns were handed, and parents helped attach the carrying stick. We didn't light the lanterns since it was still light out and safer for the toddler set. The kids enjoyed parading with their lantern-hanging-from-a-stick around the foot path, as we sang songs to accompany them. We tasted some mooncake, before continuing to mingle and network.
Sept 9th 2012 -- Visit to Buddhist Temple
4 families visited the 宝华 Buddhist Temple in San Jose together.
The kids got to explore the authentic temple, watched the Sunday prayer chanting, and had vegetarian lunch in the communal room. Seems like all the kids were really engaged by the new sights, sounds, and smell!

Sept 2nd 2012 -- Pool potluck party
16 families attended. Soo volunteered use of her condo's clubhouse, and Vivian organized the whole party. The weather was perfect for a pool party. Some kids could not wait to swim. Parents mingled, enjoyed a selection of potluck, while the kids hang out and play both indoor and out. We purposely had a chill atmosphere and only had a brief personal introduction ice-breaker for activity.

Jun-Aug 2012 -- Summer weekends storytime
Teacher Jessica ran this outdoor interactive storytime class for 3 months, under a big oak tree behind the Mt View Public Library. It was a paid class. It was so good, we had people walking in to join us, and an invitation from the library to bring it inside (which unfortunately we couldn't use, as the teacher cannot be paid). The kids who attended were very engaged by Teacher Jessica's animated style.

May 26th 2012 -- First get-together and storytime
14 families attended and it was a success! We got to know each other, then the kids got to have some fun listening to Teacher Jessica tell stories and everyone sang some Chinese kids songs.
